1276592 Fastener setting tool ATLAS COPCO AB 19 June 1970 [27 June 1969] 29760/70 Heading B3N A threaded fastener setting tool with torque release means comprises an electric or as shown a pneumatic motor 11 and driving and driven clutch part 19 and 28, the driven clutch part 28 being positionable either in driving engagement with clutch part 19, in a disengaged position as shown in Fig. 1 or in a release position as shown in Fig. 6, caused by a separating spring 32, where the motor 11 continues to rotate. Clutch part 28 is hexagonal and slidingly seats in a socket 27 of a clutch housing 26 which is connected to the tool spindle. Drive between housing 26 and clutch part 28 is by balls 38 whose position is controlled by a sleeve 37. The sleeve is biased by a spring 40 whose tension is adjustable. An elongate member 45 is radially disposed in housing 26 and engages a cam surface 48 of the sleeve 37. A pointed portion 44 of clutch part 28 engages member 45. In operation vertical movement of tool spindle 25 causes valve 13 to open via a stem 51 and a central spindle 31 of the clutch part 28. Also the clutch parts engage and drive is transmitted to the tool spindle when the loading becomes sufficiently high to overcome the tension in spring 40, the balls 38 force sleeve 37 downwardly which in turn forces member 45 inwardly so that a recess 49 is aligned with portion 44. Separating spring 44 forces clutch part 28 downwardly against spring 35. Valve 13 moves towards a seated position but does not close. When the tool is removed from the fastener, spring 32 further expands allowing zero setting, spring 35 returns clutch part 28 to the position shown in Fig. 1. The tool could be designed so that when portion 44 moves into recess 49, valve 13 closes the air supply. In another embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the torque release means is associated with the driving clutch part instead of with the driven part. |
