1284040 Supporting insulators C/P CORP- 23 Sept 1970 [24 Sept 1969] 45287/70 Heading H2C A support 10 for connecting a support rod 11 to an insulator (13, Fig. 1, not shown) comprises a metal cap 14 secured with adhesive to the rod 11, the head 19 of a bolt 18 being held against rotation between the cap 14 and rod 11; adhesive or a spot weld may additionally be used to further secure the bolt on the rod 11. The threaded section 20 of the bolt 18 passes through a threaded opening in the base of the cap 14. A pair of spring washers 26 surround part of the threaded section 20 of the bolt 18 and a fitting 21 is screwed on to the bolt 18. The insulator (13) is then screwed on to the bolt 18, the spring washers 26 serving to increase the frictional engagement of the insulator and fitting 21. In an alternative embodiment the outer fitting (31, Fig. 3, not shown) of the support is attached by adhesive to the rod 11, the bolt (32) being held against rotation by its polygonal head (33) registering in a complementary recess (34) in the fitting (31) and one spring washer (38) being fitted around the bolt between its head (33) and -the fitting (31). In a further embodiment the bolt (41, Fig. 4, not shown) is formed without a head, one end being screwed into the rod 11 and the other end being screwed into the end of the insulator, two spring washers (45) being fitted around the bolt between the fitting (43) and the end of the rod 11. A metal sleeve (46) maybe fitted around the end of the rod 11 to avoid wear on the rod. Insulators of the clamp top port type (Fig. 1, not shown), tie top port type (Fig. 4, not shown) or pin type may be used. |
