1,261,241. Smelting ores. J. YONEMOCHI. Jan.24, 1969 [Feb. 3, 1968], No. 4159/69. Heading C7D. In a process for smelting ores in a single chamber resistance furnace, the feed, consisting of ore, solid carbonaceous reducing agent and fluxing materials, is continually fed to the upper part of the furnace to maintain a compact layer of the raw materials (A) supported by a heat modified layer of the materials (B), comprising a molten matrix through which reducing agent particles are dispersed, which floats on a layer of molten slag (C) again floating on the molten metal layer (D); the heat required is provided by resistance heating of layer (B) and layer (C) and (D) are continually tapped at such a rate that the thickness of all four layers remains substantially constant. |
