<p>A braking device for small recreational vehicles, such as roller skates (1) or skateboards, having brake pads (5) positioned in close proximity to the wheels (4) of the recreational vehicle. The brake shoes (5) are brought into operative contact with the wheels (4) to effect braking under the action of a hand squeezable bulb (12). The braking device transmits the pressure created from squeezing the bulb (12) through a conduit (10) to a pressure activated member (8), such as an inflatable bladder, to displace the brake shoes (5) to their braking position. Braking pressure may be maintained through the use of a valve (11). The braking conduit (10) may be easily disengaged from the pressure activated member (8) so that the recreational vehicle may alternatively be used in a conventional fashion having no braking capability.</p> |
