<p>PURPOSE:To enable production of lactones, particularly gamma-butyrolactone in high selectivity by hydrogenation of a saturated and/or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid under mild conditions. CONSTITUTION:The hydrogenation of a saturated and/or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid is effected in the presence of a catalyst of a noble metal in group VIII supported on a carrier and an alkali metal salt of an organic compound bearing 2 or more functional groups.</p> |
