Heading C5E. - Aromatics are extracted from liquid hydrocarbons by means of diglycol amine in a ratio of solvent: feed of at least 1:1, preferably 3-10:1, by volume. Extraction is effected by countercurrent solvent extraction or by extractive distillation, the diglycolamine containing up to 10% by vol. water. Aromatics are then recovered from the solvent extract by distillation or displacement with water. Benzene, toluene or xylene, or naphtha, kerosene or diesel oil are removable from petroleum liquids by this process. In examples, the feed is a platformate containing 43À8% by vol. aromatics, or a naphtha type solvent containing 13% by vol. aromatics.</p> |
