METHYLENE BIS(ALKYLSULFIDES) AS ANTIOXIDANT SYNERGISTS IN RUBBER This invention is concerned with compounds of the structural formula: <IMG> wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different radical selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl radicals; when R1 is a hydrogen radical, R is an alkyl radical of 5 to 13 carbon atoms; when R1 is a methyl radical, R is a radical of 4 to 12 carbon atoms; when R2 is a hydrogen radical, R3 is an alkyl radical of 5 to 13 carbon atoms; when R2 is a methyl radical, R3 is an alkyl radical of 4 to 12 carbon atoms. These compounds have utility as synergists for phenolic type and amine type antioxidants in the stabilization of natural and synthetic rubbers.
