A device for engraving in plastic or metal. The method produces a permanent and aesthetically pleasing surface and the engraving is easy to apply. A cutter 1 is driven by an electric motor 9 via a flexible drive cable 8. The cutter 1 is guided manually in pen-like manner within a link groove 2 in a template 3, which is fastened directly against the work surface 6. The machining depth is adjusted by varying the free cutting length using a cutting depth control 4. This also has the function of giving the cutter 1 a secure displacement in the link groove 2 by virtue of its flat bearing surface against the template 3 and hence against the work surface 6. The configuration of the equipment makes it possible to mark, for example, an apparatus housing, regardless of geometry or appearance, provided that the work surface is flat and large enough to accommodate the template. <IMAGE> |
