PURPOSE:To simply execute the translation of a character-string printed on a paper without increasing the number of keys. CONSTITUTION:By a depressing operation of a read instruction key 21, an image read control part 6 starts its operation, and allows an image buffer 9 to store an image read through a CCD. By releasing the depressing operation of the read instruction key 21, a word extracting part 10, a character extracting part 12 and a character recognizing part 14 start their operations, a character- string is recognized from the image stored in the image buffer 9, and stored in a code buffer 16. A translation word of an encoded character-string stored in this code buffer 16 is generated by referring to an English-Japanese dictionary memory 3, and displayed on a display part 19. |
