PURPOSE:To obtain a radiation measuring instrument which does not lose its measuring function even when the instrument is subjected to calibration and, in addition, can confirm the soundness of its photomultiplier tube. CONSTITUTION:In the title measuring instrument provided with a scintillator 1, photomultiplier tube 2, and data processing section 12 for measuring radiation, a light emitting element 11 which emits light upon receiving a drive signal is provided at the position from which the optical pulse of the element 11 can be made incident to the tube 2 and the number of electric pulse signals inputted to the section 12 is counted. When the instrument is subjected to calibration, an arithmetic means subtracts the value corresponding to the optical pulse of the element 11 from the count value of the electric pulse signals outputted from the tube 2. In addition, an abnormality detecting means detects the presence/absence of abnormality from the tube 2 to the section 12 based on the value obtained as a result of the subtraction.
