PURPOSE:To provide videos having a high visibility evaluation value by optically interpolating light shielding parts existing between picture elements by the image duplication function of a diffraction grating. CONSTITUTION:This display device is constituted of a back light 101, a TFT element substrate 103, TFT elements 104, a liquid crystal layer 105, color filters 106, a light shielding member 107, a counter substrate 108 and the phase type diffraction grating 109. Gradation display is executed by combining polarizing plates 102, 110 with the liquid crystal layer 105 of a twisted nematic mode. This diffraction grating 109 is constructed by periodically arraying plural unit structures in two directions intersecting orthogonally with each other. The plural duplicated images having prescribed intensity ratios are obtd. for the apertures of the respective picture elements by the periodic arraying of such unit structures and the phase distribution thereof. These duplicated images correspond to respectively different diffraction orders. |
