The machine comprises a grinder/shredder (1) and a compacter (2) which can be mounted on a single frame (3). The grinder/shredder has an input hopper (4), a shaft (5) with cutting blades, and an outlet (6). The compacter has a power cylinder (7) with its piston rod (8) located inside a jacket (9), and the height of the frame section (3a) supporting the shredder can be adjusted so that the outlet (6) is set at a suitable angle for discharging the ground and shredded material without the risk of blocking. In addition, the input hopper is elongated to give the necessary safety distance between its inlet end and the cutting blades. The compacter and the hopper outlet are both situated above the bin (10) being filled with the shredded waste material. ADVANTAGE - Reduced floor space requirement, leaving room for second container.
