PURPOSE:To select a high-speed scanning mode and a high-quality scanning mode as necessary while the quality of image quality is always excellently kept on the assumption of a type that a latent image is formed on a latent image carrier by plural beams. CONSTITUTION:A scanning mode selection means 5 which selects one scanning mode out of at least one high-quality scanning mode and at least one high-speed scanning mode, a relative scanning position change means 6 which changes the relative scanning line positions of the plural beams Ba and Bb guided by a beam guide means 3 according to the selected scanning mode, an image signal editing and distribution means 7 which edits and distributes an image signal supplied to respective beam generation means 1a and 1b according to the selected scanning mode and a parameter change means 8 which changes at least one out of parameters related to the intensity of the beam generated by the generation means 1a and 1b and an image forming process on the latent image carrier 2 according to the selected scanning mode are provided. |
