The invention relates to a process for pretreating the connecting elements of a gastight pipe connection, having a metallic sealing seat and abutment shoulder for the multiple screw-connection of threaded pipes for the crude-oil and natural-gas industry, in which process metallic sealing seat and threaded region of the connecting element designed as a sleeve are first of all provided with a coating and, before the screw-connection, a lubricant is applied on the cleaned sealing-seat and threaded region of the sleeve and of the bare pins. For said process, the threaded region (4, 5) of the sleeve and of the bare pins (8, 9) is provided with a sealing grease and the metallic sealing-seat region (14, 15) and the abutment shoulders (16, 17) are provided with a lubricant which is suitable for high surface pressures.
