Gas-filled hollow plastic injection mouldings for cars - have hollow interiors in relevant parts filled with sound or heat insulation to promote passenger comfort

The walls of plastic e.g. components facing the interior of cars are produced by hollow injection moulding. Parts of the walls concerned, particularly those further from a panel or the interior and exposed to noise and/or heat, have their hollow interior spaces disposed so that they prevent direct transmission of noise and/or heat through to the passengers. Pref. fig. 1 represents the area between the engine compartment (1) and interior (2) of a car, with various hollow moulding walls (2-6); of these one (2) is the partition between engine and equipment (7), another (3) is part of a fan (not shown). Air is drawn in (10) between the bonnet (8) and screen (9) to the heater (11). The part (3) and the casing (12) are fixed to a panel (13) which is part of the car body. The part (6) is a lower support. A tunnel (14) contains a drive shaft (15) and is covered by another hollow moulded part (16) which, as well as the parts (2-6), have their hollow spaces (17) filled with a sound and/or heat-insyulating material. For further effect the part (19) can also have holes (20). ADVANTAGE - The layout widens the scope of applications for gas-filled hollow injection mouldings in the design of cars in particular.
