A device for applying reinforcement patches provided with glue to a web provided with transverse perforations comprises a means for tearing off the sections connected to one another by the transverse- perforation lines. Provided above the deflection roller (4) on the inlet side of a band conveyor consisting of mutually spaced continuous conveyor belts is a supply roller (6) which presses the incoming web (3) against the deflection rollers (4). A roller (7) supporting the conveyor belts (5) of the upper side is mounted with a spacing behind the deflection rollers (4) on the inlet side, this spacing being smaller than the spacing between the transverse-perforation lines of the web. The supporting roller (7) forms the counter-pressure roller for a rotating segment (8) with cylindrical circumferential surface which transports and holds a reinforcement patch (14). The radius and the speed of the circumferential surface of the segment (8) are so matched to the section lengths of the web (3) that this surface rolls between in each case two conveyor belts over part of each section while the web (3) is pressed against the counter-pressure roller (7). In this arrangement, the circumferential speed of the segment (8) and of the counter-pressure roller (7) is greater than the conveying speed of the band conveyor, so that the section (16) is torn off from the web during gluing of the patch (14) to a section.
