1,218,803. Friction clutches. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. 18 Jan., 1968 [15 Feb., 1967], No. 2783/68. Heading F2C. [Also in Division B8] A clutch for coupling a web-feeding roller 10 (see Division B8) to a driving shaft 16 comprises a casing 11 fixed to the shaft 16 and having an internal ring gear 32 engaging teeth on friction discs 33, 34 concentrically mounted on a hub 35 fixed to the shaft 13 of the roller 10. Two plates 37, 38 are keyed to the hub 35 for axial movement relative to the hub, and are adjacent to the sides of the discs 33, 34. Fluid pressure supplied to an annular air bladder 41, held in place by a plate 42, causes a pressure plate 40 to force the parts 33, 34, 37, 38 towards an abutment 36 on the hub 35 to couple the clutch. The clutch parts are normally biased to released condition by springs 46, 47. (For Figure see next page) |
