Sub-assembly for coding images composed of at least one moving pattern on a fixed or quasi-fixed background, comprising means (200, 300) for constructing a basic model representing the useful region of the said images and coding means (400), and associated decoding sub-assembly. The means for model construction comprise means for initial calibration and adaptation of the model, updating means themselves comprising a circuit (301) for determining the motion of characteristic points extracted from the said useful region and a circuit (302) for selecting at least one region of particular interest inside the said useful region and for determining its motion. The coding means comprise a circuit (420) for coding the output signals from the means of initial calibration, and circuits (431, 432) for coding the output signals from the circuits (301, 302), as well as a circuit (433) for correcting, within a region bordering the boundary of the said region or regions of interest, offsets in luminance or chrominance which are observed on either side of the boundary.
