[Also in Division F4] A liquid such as milk is dried by atomizing it into the upper end of chamber 1 which is supplied with heated gas through inlet 3; a mixture of powder and gas is removed through outlet 4 at the lower end of the chamber and is passed to a cyclone separator system 5, 10, 11 which is supplied with compressed gas via cooler 14 and conduit 15. The finer particles of powder are returned to chamber 1 in a stream of cool gas flowing from cyclone 10 through conduit 20, rotating hood 21 and orifices 23, 24. Powder in the form of larger particles is discharged from the system as product through outlet 17. |
