PURPOSE:To obtain the silver halide photographic sensitive material having high sensitivity and small tendency to raise fog and small change in sensitivity during storage under high temperature and high humidity by incorporating a specified methine compound. CONSTITUTION:This methine compound to be added is represented by formula I in which each of Z1 and Z2 is an atomic group necessary to form a 5- or 6-membered N-containing hetero ring; each of R1 and R2 is alkyl; R3 is an alkyl, aryl, or heterocyclic group; Q1 is an atomic group necessary to form a 5-, 6-, or 7-membered ring; each of L1-L8 is a methine group; each of n1 and n2 is 0 or 1; M1 is a counter ion for neutralizing an electric charge; and m1 is a number for neutralizing it in the molecule. The silver halide emulsion to be used may contain any of silver bromide, silver iodobromide, silver iodochlorobromide, silver chlorobromide, and silver chloride, and it is preferred that this photosensitive material has at least 3 silver halide emulsion layers on a support and at least 2 of them has each spectral sensitivity maximum in the wavelength region of >=670nm.
