PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain whole uniform superconducting properties while preventing the deformation due to a horizontal placing without increasing a load, by stacking a superconducting layer on the inner surface of a cylindrical metal substrate and installing a plurality of ring reinforcing members on the outer surface of the cylindrical metal substrate. CONSTITUTION:In a cylindrical superconducting magnetic shield which is applied to a biological magnetic measuring apparatus etc., and is used with its axial direction stood horizontally, an Ag layer 3 is stacked on the inner surface of an Inconel cylindrical metal substrate 1 having a bottom and further a Bi superconducting layer 4 is stacked on the inner surface of the Ag layer 3. Then, a plurality of Inconel ring reinforcing members 2 are placed on the outer surface of the substrate 1 at intervals by a welding. The reinforcing members 2 are formed so that the internal stress occurring in the superconducting layer 4 is less than 0.30MPa and the decrease in magnetic shielding power is controlled within a given range. For example, the interval for placing the reinforcing members 2 is 1/2 to 1/5 the outer diameter of the substrate 1 and the width of the reinforcing members 2 is 1/50 to 1/10 the outer diameter of the substrate 1.
