PURPOSE:To provide the process for production of the spatial optical modulation element which can greatly improve the spatial resolution of the spatial optical modulation element by enabling the formation of a thin photoconductive layer consisting of a photoconductive crystal. CONSTITUTION:A photoconductive crystal plate is adhered to the transparent electrode film 3A side of a glass substrate 2A. This photoconductive crystal plate is then subjected to grinding and polishing to form the photoconductive layer 1A. A light shielding layer 5 and multilayered dielectric films 6 are provided on the photoconductive layer 1A. A sealing material 7 contg. spacers is fixed between the glass substrates 2A and 2B and a liquid crystal material is poured to the inner side of the sealing material 7, by which an optical modulating layer 8 is formed. The difference between the coefft. of thermal expansion of the optical glass constituting the glass substrate 2A and the coefft. of thermal expansion of the crystal constituting the photoconductive crystal plate is confined to <=40X10<-7>/ deg.C. |
