2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethanol derivs., as pure or mixed enantiomers, as the free bases or as acid addn. salts of formula (I) are new, where R1 is H, halo or methyl; R2 is one or two of H, halo, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, -CF3, acetylamino, and methylsulphonylamino; X is CH2 and Y is CH2, (CH2)2 or CO; or X is CO and Y is CH2.. With the exception of R1 and R2 being H and X and Y being CH2.
