1,271,062. I. C. engine casings; treating charge. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Jan.16, 1970 [Jan. 18, 1969], No.2173/70. Heading F1B. An I. C. engine carburetter casing comprises a fuel-impervious housing which includes liquid or vapourous fuel passages to the carburetter, the housing interior being connected to atmosphere by a non-return valve 1 Fig. 1 and/or a venting conduit 2 Fig. 2 leading to a space not subject to explosion, the housing including a detachable liquid fuel collecting chamber 10 arranged, in use, to be lower than the non-return valve and the connection of the venting conduit. The detachable portion 4 is retained by a clip 21 and the entry of cable 20 is hermetically sealed at 6. Fuel leaking from the carburetter is caught by projection 11 and drains into chamber 10. Fuel condensing on the walls adjacent the non-return valve 1 is collected in grooves and drains to the collection chamber through holes 15. The chamber 10 may be connected to a choke section in the engine inlet passage. In another embodiment wall 14 is omitted and valve 1 is replaced by a plate valve. In further embodiments the fuel supply pipe is surrounded by a fuel resistant conduit which vents the interior of the casing to an area not subjected to the risk of explosion e.g. an open-topped enclosure around the fuel tank. |
