Halo-bis(cyclooctene)-iridium (I) (A) or systems derived from this are used as homogeneous catalysts, contg no carbonyl ligands for org. reactions. Catalysts systems contg. A and tert. phosphines or arsines in a ratio of phosphine or arsine: A of 0-2.8 are claimed. The catalysts are esp used in hydrogenation and/or isomerisation reactions. The (partial) hydrogenation of esters of unsatd fatty acids is claimed; the process includes also modifying the melt behaviour of unsatd oils, to give fat composns. with fairly sharp m. pts by hydrogenation by means of these catalysts. Synth. fatty acids with an even number of C atoms can be prepd by oxidising 2-alkenes obtd. by isomerising 1-alkenes with these Ir catalysts. |
