PURPOSE:To align waveguide cores and fiber cores without making axis alignment and to eliminate the connection loss by axis mis-alignment by patterning the waveguide cores on the basis of the edge parts of grooves. CONSTITUTION:The waveguide cores are patterned by registering the edge parts 6 of, for example, the V-shaped grooves 5 previously formed on a waveguide substrate 1 formed with a slab waveguide 4 and a photomask for patterning the waveguide cores on the bases of the above-mentioned edge parts 6. The waveguide cores can, therefore, be formed in the state of exactly aligning the centers of the grooves 5 and the centers of the waveguide cores. The connector pins of optical fibers are fitted into the fitting pin grooves of the optical waveguide element having the waveguide cores exactly aligned to the fitting pin grooves in such a manner, by which the waveguide cores and the fiber cores are connected without making the axis alignment. |
