PURPOSE:To facilitate starting a discharge lamp by generating starting pulses synchronously with the polarity of an output voltage of an inverter circuit. CONSTITUTION:A start signal output circuit 5 is connected to an oscillation circuit 20 of an inverter circuit 2 to control in such a way that a starting pulse generating circuit 6 acts synchronously with a polarity of an output voltage of the inverter circuit 2. Starting pulses are thus generated in accordance with an output voltage generation direction of the inverter circuit 2, thereby a peak value of the starting pulses applied to a discharge lamp 3 can be set high. |
