This winch is particularly intended for manoeuvring a lift, of the type including an electric drive motor (2), the shaft (3) of which is extended by a worm (4) capable of meshing tangentially with a reduction gearwheel (5) with helical teeth housed in a casing (6) to form a speed reducer, the said gearwheel (5) extending axially towards the right or towards the left by a shaft (9) for controlling an external winding element (8) the relative position of which with respect to the motor (2), which is perpendicular to it, is subordinate to parameters of the size of the assembly to ensure that it will fit in a given space. It is characterised in that it includes removable and reversible means for fixing the shaft (9) for controlling the winding element (8) with respect to the helical gear wheel (5) so as to be able to arrange the said winding element (8), as required, to the right or to the left with respect to the motor (2) independent of the relative position of the latter. <IMAGE>
