Airbag system with horn button - has rigid insert to locate horn button contact plates inside flexible cover

The airbag is held in a folded position inside a padded cover in the centre of the steering wheel. The cover also holds the horn button comprising three parallel metal plates (18) held apart by spacers and linked to the horn circuit. The plate assembly is held by rigid inserts (15) on the sides of the structure. The horn structure is fitted after the moulding process for the flexible cover. The rigid mountings provide an exact orientation of the horn controls. The metal plates have tags which run into the airbag support structure and are anchored on the inner mounting plate. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple moulding for flexible cover, accurate location for horn control.
