Typically the mask has a matrix of 512 x 512 holes. The plate has a photo cathode (3) with an optical path to a microchannel plate (4) in which there are a large number of channels less than 4 mu metres in dia.. On the output side of the image amplifier there is a optical screen (101), glass fibre plate (102) and an X-Y addressable image receiver (6) with a single light sensitive region (5).
