Spray system for underground mining machine - detects quantity of material conveyed to crushing tool to control spray jet intensity for effective dust suppression

The spray system is used to wet the mined material in the vicinity of the crushing tool during its transport from the mining face, with the spray jet intensity regulated in dependence on the material transport rate. An ultrasonic sensor (1) above the transport conveyor is used to detect the conveyor loading height, to provide a regulation signal for the spray jet intensity. The spray jets are pref. connected in parallel to a common water supply line, with a magnetic valve controlling the water feed rate. ADVANTAGE - Ensures spray is matched to material handling rate for effective suppression of dust.
