The sealing device is for metal surfaces bearing against ceramic surfaces. It may prevent the escape of aggressive media, e.g. liq. sodium metal. The seal structure forms a large number of small cells, bounded by metallic bars (1) with an approx. square cross-section with straight sides, straight bottom surface (3) and a rounded top surface (3). The rates of the front surface area of the bars (1) to the free surface area of the cells is equal or less than 40:60 and the ratio of the height of the bars to their width is equal or less than 4:1. The metal bars may be made of nickel. USE/ADVANTAGE - Metal-ceramic sealing structure is proof against aggressive media, e.g. liq. sodium.
