The hollow roller has axially parallel drillings which form a channel system for the feed and exhaust of a heat carrier medium in a succession of paths. A displacement body, fixed radially and axially at each end side of the roller, acts with the feed and exhaust channel on one side and the axial ring gap to the inner wall of the roller body on the other side, to form a channel system for a coolant. Each channel system has the same structure for a heat carrier medium and a coolant. The feed and take-off for the heat carrier medium and the coolant are each connected separately at the diametrical flange journals or at the same flange journal. The coolant flows through a drilling system at the journals to cool the roller bearings. USE/ADVANTAGE - The hollow roller is used esp. as a polishing or calender roller or drying cylinder in a paper-making machine. The roller structure ensures a consistent temp. over the roller, including the roller edge zones.
