EXCAVATOR TOOTH RETAINING ASSEMBLY

An excavating tooth assembly of the type having: an adaptor (10) provided with a forwardly disposed nose portion (11) and a rearwardly disposed base portion (12); a ground-engaging tooth point member (14) having a socket (13) formed in its rear section for receiving said nose portion (11) of said adaptor (10), and pin means (15, 16) extending through and releasably interconnecting said tooth point member (14) and said nose portion (11) of said adaptor (10), said pin means (15, 16) being passed through apertures (17) in the opposed spaced walls of the tooth point member (14) defining said socket (13) and also through the corresponding aperture means (19) of the nose portion (11) when the latter is received in said tooth point member (14) socket (13), characterized in that said pin means comprises pin members including (1) one or more elongate holding members (15) adapted to be first inserted longitudinally and then to be moved laterally to cause engagement means (21, 22) on the or each holding member (15) to engage complementary portions of the aperture surrounds (20) and assume operative attitude, and (2) a locking member (16) adapted to be inserted after the or each holding member (15) has been moved laterally and adapted to lock said holding member (15) or members in said operative attitude.
