The line between the resistor and diode leads from a voltage source to a switching mode, with current rising from zero to a max. value. The excess current is moved from one input line to the other one by the capacitor and diode. The voltage on the two input lines is kept approx. to that of the voltage source. The latter is in series with the resistor coupled to the capacitor.
