The hydraulic drive system incorporates closely associated radial and axial cylinder reciprocating machines. The radial machine acts as a pump and the axial machine as a motor or vice versa. The cylinders of the radial machine surround the cylinder drum (14) of the axial machine, and the radial pistons are urged inward by an adjustable eccentric running ring (31).
