PURPOSE:To prepare a terpolymer in a high yield without reduction of its heat resistance, by emulsion polymerization of alpha-methylstyrene, methyl methacrylate and crylonitrile at two steps in different proportions. CONSTITUTION:At the first step, alpha-methylstyrene, methyl methacrylate and acrylonitrile in a proportion defined within a zine ABCD of the figure, are polymerized to anextent of 25-75wt% of the total polymer to be produced, and then, at the second step, they in a proportion defined within a zone ADEFG of the figure and different from that at the first step, are polymerized, to obtain purpose product (in which the monomer proportion is within a zone HIJKL of the figure) in a yield >=95%. EFFECT:It is possible to obtain a copolymer, excellent in workability and in resistance to discoloration, which can find a variety of applications, by being blended with ABS resin. |
