1285327 Cotton web; treating fibres H DE LA SERVIERE 19 April 1971 [9 March 1970] 23422/71 Headings D1F D1R A method of preparing a self-supporting raw cotton web comprises wetting a web of raw cotton fibres with a solution of a wetting agent for the fibres, and compressing the web to remove excess solution. In the method described, a web 12 of cleaned raw cotton fibres is carried on belt 1 into a bath 10 of wetting agent solution, which may be a non-ionic surfactant, and is compressed between belts 1, 2 and rollers 5, 7 while being withdrawn from the bath. Guide rolls 13, 14 serve to squeeze remaining excess solution from the web. The belts may be made of perforated metal. The solution is preferably maintained hot, e.g. at a temperature of from 50‹C to 70‹C. The web may subsequently be boiled, bleached washed and dried to from a cotton felt. |
