1,197,347. Fuzes. K. DIEHL. 1 April, 1968 [13 April, 1967], No. 15629/68. Heading F3A. A fuze particularly for hand grenades comprises a detonator 22 axially separated from a secondary charge 24 and releasable only after actuation of fuze triggering means, a fusible means 26 retaining a carrier 14 for the detonator against the action of a spring 16, and a pyrotechnical charge 13 ignitable to melt or soften the fusible means and thereby permit the detonator to move into the secondary charge. The charge 13 is ignitable by a detonator 10 which is struck by a spring loaded hammer 9 following withdrawal of a pin 5 and ejection of a plate spring 6 and handle 4. The detonator 22 is ignited when the voltage generated by the heating of a piezo-electric cell 17 exceeds the ignition voltage of a spark gap separating the cell from an electrode 20 of the detonator. Alternatively, the cell and electrode may be connectable by an all-round, impact-responsive switch (not shown). The fusible means is formed by Wood's alloy, solder or synthetic resin and may be in the form of a tube. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the fusible means is a soldered joint (36) and the detonator is ignited by a priming charge (27). Part of the heat reaching the fusible means is transmitted through the wall of the carrier 14. |
