1,235,166. Coated polymeric products. TAKIRON KAGAKU K.K. 30 Aug., 1968 [29 June, 1968], No. 41632/68. Heading B2E. The deterioration of a synthetic resin due to ultra-violet rays and oxygen is reduced by applying to the resin a solvent for the resin containing an inhibitor dissolved therein and then volatilizing the solvent so that swelling of the resin is caused and the inhibitor is introduced in or below the surface of the product. The plastics material may be an ABS resin, a vinyl chloride resin, a vinyl resin, or a cellulose derivative. A thermoplastic material may be present in the solution so so that the layer of the thermoplastic material is formed on the surface of the resin. Numerous suitable solvents are specified such as aromatic hydrocarbons, hydrocarbon halides, ethers, ketones and esters. The solution may be applied by spray-coating, brush-coating or by immersion. The resin may be in the form of a coating on, for example wood, metal or non-metallic articles. |
