PURPOSE:To absorb rapid drop of the engine-side torque and avoid the torque shock, by controlling a lock-up means so as to change over its connection condition to its disconnection condition simultaneously with the time when an engine transits from an ordinary operation to a lean operation or the time when an external load acts on the engine. CONSTITUTION:When control is made, by a control apparatus, of a power train equipped with an automatic transmission having a lock-up means for making connection/disconnection between an input and an output shaft of a torque converter, it is first decided by a 'lean' decision means from an output of an operational-condition detection means whether or not the operational condition of the engine is in a set range for controlling the air-fuel ratio to the 'lean' side. When this decision is affirmative, the airfuel ratio is controlled to the lean side from a theoretica air-fuel ratio through controlling an air-fuel ratio adjusting means by an air-fuel ratio lean control means. Simultaneously with commencement of this lean control, at the time when an external load operation is detected, the connection state of the lock-up means is controlled to the disconnection side by a lock-up connection control means. |
