MONOALKYLCATECHOL SULFIDE AND LUBRICATING OIL ADDITIVE COMPRISING ITS DERIVATIVE

PURPOSE:To produce a monoalkylcatechol sulfide derivative which has improved oxidation and abrasion preventing properties at high temperatures by reacting a monoalkylcatechol sulfide with an alkaline earth metal (hydr) oxide. CONSTITUTION:An alkylcatechol obtained by reacting catechol with a 42-30C olefin at 50-200 deg.C in the presence of an alkylation catalyst in reacted with elementary sulfur or sulfur chloride at 0-250 deg.C for 2-8hr to obtain a monoalkylcatechol sulfide of a sulfur content of 0.05-15wt.%. This sulfide is reacted with 0.1-1.0mol% alkaline earth metal (hydr)oxide at 100-200 deg.C for 2-8hr to obtain the objective lubricating additive comprising an alkaline earth metal salt of the monoalkylcatechol sulfide. 0.01-10wt.% this additive is added to a lubricating oil.
