<p>An unfinished aluminium alloy piston is heated to a temp. e.g. ca. 204 degrees C, which is below the alloy softening temp. The annular groove is sand blasted as the piston is rotated and while the piston is still hot (pref. at 149 degrees C) a bonding agent (pref. Ni-Al alloy) is sprayed on the groove surface. Following this treatment a wear-resistant metal (pref. stainless steel) is sprayed onto the groove while the temp. of the piston is 149 degrees C - 216 degrees C.</p> |
