PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in high conversion and selectivity by subjecting butane to a vapor-phase catalytic oxidation with molecular oxygen in the presence of a phosphorus-vanadium-oxygen complex catalyst containing a specific metal. CONSTITUTION:Butane is subjected to vapor-phase catalytic oxidation reaction with molecular oxygen at 300-500 deg.C under normal pressure in the presence of a catalyst produced by mixing a vanadyl pyrophosphate with a pyrophosphoric acid salt of a 2 to 4-valent metal expressed by the formulas M<2+>P2O7 (M<2+> is bivalent metal), M<3+>4(P2O7)3 (M<3+> is trivalent metal) and M<4+>P2O7 (M<4+> is tetravalent metal) at a molar ratio [(pyrophosphoric acid salt)/(vanadyl pyrophosphate)] of 0.01-0.5. The catalyst is used after the pretreatment in an inert gas or in a gaseous mixture of butane and a molecular oxygen-containing gas at 350-700 deg.C. |
