PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in high conversion and selectivity by subjecting butane to a vapor-phase catalytic oxidation with molecular oxygen in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Butane is subjected to vapor-phase catalytic oxidation reaction with molecular oxygen at 300-500 deg.C under normal pressure in the presence of a catalyst produced by mixing a monohydrogen vanadyl orthophosphate of the formula VOHP04.0.5H2O with a bivalent metal monohydrogen orthophosphate of the formula MHPO4.nH2O (M is Mg, Ca, Ba, Mn, Fe, etc., having an atomic valence of 2; $,n1 is number of coordinated water molecules which depends upon the preparation temperature) and a bivalent metal ammonium orthophosphate of the formula NH4MPO4.nH2O at a mixing ratio (M/V atomic ratio) of 0.003-0.5 and calcining the obtained mixture at 300-400 deg.C. The catalyst is used after the pretreatment in an inert gas or in a gaseous mixture of butane and a molecular oxygen-containing gas at 350-700 deg.C. |
