In order to reduce the power consumption, the converter switches the CATV circuit to the state of "OFF", when receiving the general broadcasting. This converter includes a tuner (10) for selecting the channel in the RF input signal, a demodulator (20) for demodulating image and voice signals, a modulator (30) for outputting demodulated signal, a MICOM (40) for controlling the tuner, demodulator and modulator. The power switching means supplys or cuts off power to the tuner, demodulator and modulator. The switching filtering means selects the CATV signal or the general broadcasting signal. First filter corresponds to the general broadcasting, and 2nd filter to the CATV signal.
