PURPOSE:To purify at reduced cost the subject hydrogen chloride by reactivating activated carbon deactivated due to repeated absorption/desorption operations by washing it with an aqueous alkaline or acidic solution. CONSTITUTION:A HCl gas containing hydrolyzable organosilicon compounds of formula I or II (R<1-8> are each H, halogen, OH, 1-6C alkoxy, 6-10C aryloxy or monovalent hydrocarbon; n is 0-20; m is 3-20 is blown into an adsorption column packed with activated carbon to make adsorbed and remove the organosilicon compounds. Thence, the compounds adgorbed are desorbed using an inert gas such as N2 while heating at 100-200 deg.C under reduced pressures. The activated carbon deactivated due to these repeated in a mixed solution of an alcohol and 10-30wt.% aqueous alkaline solution (e.g. NaOH) for 3-24hr or a l-10wt.% aqueous acidic solution (e.g. phosphoric acid) for 3-10hr. The solution is then drawn off and the resulting carbon is washed with water until it gets neutral, and dried at 100-150 deg.C under reduced pressures, thus reactivating the carbon. |
