PURPOSE:To improve the straightforwardness of the ultrasonic beams being radiated, and also to increase the total sound output for improving the signal- noise ratio by forming the beam wave transmitting/receiving surface of a ultrasonic oscillator into a multiangular shape. CONSTITUTION:In a ultrasonic oscillator 1, the transmission and receiving of ultrasonic beam waves are carried out by a prescribed control signal from the system body side. For instance, the beam wave transmitting/receiving surface of the ultrasonic oscillator 1 is formed into a square circumscribed around a circle. Accordingly, in the case of a square wave transmitting/receiving surface, as compared with the conventional circular shape one, the ratio of square area/circular area becomes 4/pi times. Since the area of the beam wave transmitting/receiving surface becomes larger, the straightforwardness of ultrasonic waves can be improved, and ultrasonic waves of relatively large output can be sent to the deeper part of a living body to be examined. Since the total sound output is also increased, the signal-noise ratio can be improved. Thus, a high-quality ultrasonic image can be obtained especially even in a deeper part as well as in a shallower part of the living body to be examined. |
