The lamp cover has a transparent strip (4) that may be clear or coloured and is fitted in a vertical slot (5) in a wall of a cylindrical post (1) supporting the lighting. A light source (3) may be placed inside the pole in the region where the slots are formed. In an alternative configuration the principal reflector of the light fitting is extended vertically upward, and slots in the extended region are fitted with the transparent strips. The light is then provided by residual light from the main light source. USE/ADVANTAGE Simple provision of extra light outlets on posts used in public lighting, providing decorative effect, signalling or guidance.
