Shaped hollow filaments are produced by melt spinning a linear synthetic high polymer through a spinneret provided with at least one extrusion orifice, the extrusion orifice consisting of at least two elemental extrusion orifices, each of which is V-shaped with its tip sharpened by two rectangular slots meeting at one end, the length of the slot e, its width d, and its angle of aperture of slots # (defined) satisfying the expression, all of the elemental extrusion orifices having their sharp tips directed outwardly, and the shortest distance a between the ends of two adjoining elemental extrusion orifices satisfying the expression 1 mm. > a # 0À1 mm. Preferably an extrusion orifice consists of two to five such elemental extrusion orifices arranged such that all of the bisectors of the angles of apertures of the slots meet substantially at a point, and the preferred angle of aperture of slots ranges from 30 to 90 degrees. Specified linear synthetic high polymers which may be so spun include polyamides, polyurethane, polyesters and polypropylene. |
